IPL 2022: MS Dhoni hands over Ravindra Jadeja to CSK captain

IPL 2022: CSK has said Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.

MS Dhoni, who has captained CSK since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, handed over the team captain Ravindra Jadeja on Thursday. The decision comes two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season.

In a statement, CSK said Dhoni would continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond. “Ms. Dhoni has decided to relinquish the leadership of the Chennai Super Kings and appoint Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be only the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent the Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond, ”read a statement from CSK.

Dhoni, who led the team to four wins, may play in his final IPL this season. Dhoni, 40, has already stopped playing international cricket.

Defending champions CSK will open their campaign with the team that came second in the previous program Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Jadeja’s last time as captain of cricket was on October 28, 2007, when he led the Saurashtra Under-19 against Mumbai Under-19 in the Vinoo Mankad tournament at the Western Railway Ground in Rajkot.

Meanwhile, Jadeja also won the top spot for West Indies’ Jason Holder in the latest ICC Test list of all runners-up on Wednesday. Jadeja went up to No. 1 after 175 unbeaten and nine wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali earlier this month.
